What we know about Borderlands 4: release date, main characters and new mechanics

Borderlands 4 release date

Gearbox has stated that the game will be released in 2025. Aside from the first trailer, the studio only showed off a gameplay trailer so it's reasonable to assume that the project is expected to come out. eyes in the fall. For reference, Borderlands 2 and 3 launched in September.

However, it's worth considering that the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 is also planned for the second half of 2025 – at least on consoles. It would be strange if Take-Two decided to put their biggest games together, so that one of them could very well be moved.

The main character of the new Borderlands

The game's trailer, released at The Game Awards 2024, introduced Borderlands 4's four playable heroes for the first time, but the developer has yet to reveal any details.

At PAX in September, studio representatives outlined the design strategy for the main characters. According to Gearbox creative director Graham Timmins, the developers decided to “try something new” – the prototypes will likely be slightly different from previous games. And the project's narrative director Sam Winkler explains that in Borderlands 4, the studio will make the player and his hero the central characters of the plot, while also working to ensure that the Humor is felt naturally.

The reaction of fans of the franchise to the new faces, based on comments under the video and posts on social networks, turned out to be mixed – some gamers thought that the heroes were too lackluster bland.

What is known about the gameplay

In the first trailer, you might notice a few little things beyond the standard random weapon generation for Borderlands. Specifically an energy grappling hook, a hovering bike that appears outside the station (can you call the transport somewhere?) and of course the Claptrap. You can't hide from a pesky robot even on an unexplored planet.
