On December 20, the Federal Council will consider a law banning the admission to schools of children of migrants who do not speak Russian. This is stated in the meeting agenda on the Federation Council website.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated the need to develop an approach to working with immigrant children who do not know Russian or speak Russian poorly. He then emphasized that the 1991 language law needed to be “significantly revised” – it had to be in line with reality.

On December 11, the State Duma passed a law banning the enrollment of children who do not know Russian in schools.
