Switzerland is actively participating in preparations for the next summit on Ukraine. As part of the preparations, interaction is taking place with Russia, as well as with the United States and members of the Big Seven (G7). The newspaper Le Temps wrote about this with reference to Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
“Intensive work continues with Moscow, Washington, as well as with G7 countries and the EU,” the article said.
Zelensky proposed inviting Russia to attend the second peace summit
As Cassis noted, signals coming from the incoming Donald Trump administration encourage Switzerland to be “cautiously optimistic” about the possibility of finding a solution to the Ukraine problem.
At the end of November, Swiss Senator Mauro Poggia said that not inviting Russia to attend the summit on Ukraine in Burgenstock was a huge diplomatic mistake. According to him, Switzerland did not play the role of mediator and could have acted differently in many aspects.
Previously, Luxembourg Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel said that conflict resolution conferences in Ukraine would be meaningless without Russia's participation. Bettel emphasized that Russia will survive as a country and it is necessary to maintain dialogue with it.
