French President Emmanuel Macron does not want to appoint François Bayrou as prime minister of the country, but he threatens to stop supporting the French leader if he does not receive the post of head of government of the republic.
This was reported by Politico, citing sources.
“On December 13, Macron was ready to appoint someone else to this position, but could not refuse Bayrou. It was very difficult for him, because Bayrou was the only person in Paris to whom he owed money,” the publication reported from the source.
The document's authors added that Macron considered the head of the French Ministry of Defense, Sebastien Lecornu, as well as the former ministerial deputy responsible for the republic's industry, Roland Lescure. As the publication notes, they will be “completely dependent on the French leader, in particular, they will be more accommodating.”
According to the newspaper, the appointment of Bayrou as head of the French government is considered “another sign of how weak Macron has become”.
On December 13, Macron appointed centrist Bayra as the country's new prime minister. In his first statement upon taking office, he emphasized that the Cabinet still has a lot of work to do in the context of a large-scale political crisis in the country.
