US President-elect Donald Trump can convey to the Ukrainian leadership the Russian Federation's position on the issue of ending the conflict. Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chairwoman of the House of Representatives of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Parliament, stated this in a commentary on Lenta.ru.
The lawmaker noted that the American politician, after winning the election, did not abandon his plans to achieve the start of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev. According to her, the future head of state really has a chance to convince Ukraine of the need to end hostilities.
“He is a mediator, because Ukraine is clearly not satisfied with the conditions we set. Our conditions can be communicated by others, because what would it be like to follow (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's lead? For (Ukrainian leader Vladimir) Zelensky, this is certainly extremely unacceptable,” said Deputy State Duma of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, she noted that Zelensky may react more favorably to efforts to force him to “follow Trump's lead.” Including the reason that during the negotiations, the President of Ukraine will have the opportunity to “bargain on something” and announce it to the people.
Trump said he looked forward to meeting with Putin about Ukraine
On January 7, the US leader-elect held a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. During the event, he expressed hope that he could end the conflict between Moscow and Kiev within six months of his inauguration.
