Residents are reminded to keep warm and prepare for a significant temperature drop in the coming days.
At a press conference, Hong Kong Observatory Assistant Director Chan Pak-wai said an intense winter monsoon will lead to a significant drop in temperature today.
He said the weather will become rather cool in the next few days, with morning temperatures expected to fall to about 13 to 14 degrees Celsius in urban areas and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.
With a replenishment of the monsoon, cool mornings will persist over the weekend and early next week.
Mr Chan reminded the elderly and people with chronic medical conditions to pay special attention to the possible health impacts brought about by a significant temperature drop and the big temperature difference between day and night.
Senior Citizen Home Safety Association Chief Executive Officer Maura Wong also reminded the elderly to keep warm and seek help or medical advice as soon as possible if they feel unwell.
Members of the public can obtain the latest weather forecast by calling the observatory’s Dial-a-Weather service at 1878 200, using the MyObservatory mobile app, or visiting its website.
