The Government today announced the appointments of Philip Tsai and Prof Raymond Liang as Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Hong Kong Genome Institute (HKGI) Board of Directors.

Thirteen non-official directors have also been appointed to the board.

The Chairperson and the Deputy Chairperson appointments are effective from July 27, while the non-official directors’ appointments will be effective from November 5. The appointments are for two years.

Meanwhile, Lo Su-vui will become the board’s director when he assumes the position of the institute’s Chief Executive Officer in due course.

The institute is a newly established private company limited by guarantee and wholly owned by the Government to implement the Hong Kong Genome Project.

Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan welcomed the newly appointed board which represents stakeholders from a broad spectrum, including the Hospital Authority, universities and patient groups as well as commercial, accounting, legal and public relations sectors.

“We are confident that under the leadership of Mr Tsai and with the valuable expertise and contribution of Prof Liang and the other directors, as well as Dr Lo’s vast management experience in healthcare research and services, the HKGI will be able to launch the genome project smoothly in collaboration with the stakeholders.”
