Acting Chief Executive Matthew Cheung today commended more than 1,200 teachers at the Salute to Teachers 2020 – Teachers’ Day & Commendation Certificate Presentation Ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Cheung thanked the teachers for their prompt responses to various challenges and their great efforts in the past year.
Noting that face-to-face classes had been suspended for more than six months under the impact of COVID-19, he said students were given effective support in their learning due to the schools and teachers’ concerted efforts in adopting diversified and creative modes of teaching to achieve “suspending classes without suspending learning”.
Organised by the Committee on Respect Our Teachers Campaign, the Teachers’ Commendation Scheme is in its 25th year. Over 31,000 teachers have been commended to date.
Originally scheduled for mid-September, the ceremony was postponed to today due to the COVID-19 epidemic. All anti-epidemic measures were put in place at the event.
